Identify the question(s) or inquiry that guided your sustained investigation
My sustained investigation is about personal identity as a function of the narrative and how we form an identity by integrating our perspectives and life experiences into an evolving story whilst exploring textures, blending, and typography. The usage and theme of stamps are an attempt to portray a part of my autobiographical past as stamps have been passed down for generations in our family. The reconstructions of my face illustrate myself in the past, present and future, dissecting the roles of my identity, each of which is a reflection of my self-exploration and continuing transformation.
Describe how your sustained investigation shows evidence of practice, experimentation, and revision guided by your question(s) or inquiry.
During the exploration of my SI, I explored acrylics and self-portraits whilst focusing on the visual metaphors and stigmas of personal identity as a function of the narrative. The selected works bring light to subjects such as mortality, sense of self, growth, change, personas, and mindsets. I focused on refining techniques that initially intimidated me such as blending and painting facial expressions, as well as framework and typography. My work portrays countless hours spent creating different colors and textures for each background and the skills I acquired through working within a theme.
